Anti-tobacco advertising does not allow people to quit smoking

Anti-tobacco advertising prevents quit. It became known from the results of a study conducted in Australia. During this study, researchers asked more than one thousand viewers aged 12-24, BBC reports.

It was found that the anti-tobacco to commercial films, in which the process of smoking looks very attractive, does not strengthen the motivation of smokers to quit the habit.

In general, studies have shown that such effects of advertising, only those who smoke Dont at all.

Scientists explain this fact with the following idea: Smokers boring state, when all dictate how they should behave and areas of life they are accustomed.

Researchers questioned 1,300 film enthusiasts, in order to determine how anti-tobacco advertising is changing their views on smoking. Commercial about the dangers of smoking was watching a movie to more than half of respondents, other viewers were not shown in the commercial.

After the film shows 25% of smokers who Didn't watch the commercial, said that they are unlikely to quit smoking. The same answer was given 39% of people who watched the commercial.

For comparison: the number of non-smoking participants of the survey, which Didn't change their negative attitude to smoking while watching a commercial than were non-smokers who Didn't Watch commercial (96% -94%).

The researchers noted that the anti-tobacco business may hit the target. However, certain conditions must be met. Thus, Diane Bull, head of research group, urged the sponsors of these videos to be cautious and restrained. According to Mr-Bull, obscenity causes unnecessary resistance from the audience. In this effort smoking fighters come to naught, when people watch their favorite heroes with cigarettes in the film.
